Paiste Ludwig

Ludwig paiste.jpg
Paiste's 1st. appearance in a Ludwig catalog (1957)!

Introduction: 1956
Discontinued: 1964(?)
Background: 1957: With its newly founded branch in neutral Switzerland, PAISTE intends to bypass the trade restrictions of the victorious powers of the Second World War and to enter the international markets, an often-quoted assumption that sounds logical.
Nobody less than the great Ludwig Drum Company of Chicago becomes the distributor for the US market. This can be described as a small sensation and a great business success for PAISTE.
Ludwig sold Zildjian cymbals exclusively starting with the first catalog in 1912, from 1957, a cheaper PAISTE series is offered in addition to the higher-quality Zildjians, under the name "Ludwig".
In addition to the "LUDWIG" logo, they also have PAISTE and three stars stamped in and correspond to an inexpensive entry-level quality.
The cymbals appear listed this way (w/o the "Standard" designation) in the 1960, 1962, 1963 and 1964 catalogs alongside A. Zildjians. Despite the different types of early Ludwig Paistes we know to exist - the 3-Star version, some with Ludwig "Chicago" embossed, the Standards, the prices are the same throughout this time period.
Ludwig cymbals are first made in Germany (with the addition of "CHICAGO" on the stamp), later with the embossing "SWISS MADE", they are all made of nickel silver (NS12).
The cymbals of the first LUDWIG series are not, as is often claimed, identical to those of the STANOPLE series, although these later form the lowest entry-level series in the Ludwig catalog.
