Meinl's Description: <<< - >>>
Review: "Warm, powerful, dark, immediately explosive and short. All in all, a big sound for an 18-inch cymbal. A little gem. Usually, in jazz, the ride is the most used cymbal: a cymbal that is normally thin and therefore also capable of producing certain crash-like openings. The crash cymbal is therefore used rarely, for quick and isolated accents, which is why Meinl produces only one crash in its Byzance Foundry Reserve line, in the most usual diameter, 18 inches. Being medium-thickness, this cymbal can also be used as a ride: light, high-pitched, and excellent in a small-sized ensemble. Usually, making a crash cymbal takes quite some time, since the hammering phase requires extreme attention, precision, and care to ensure that the cymbal achieves a full and continuous vibration along the entire edge through to the center of its surface. This process becomes even more detailed and intricate when the hammering is deep. Not only that. The metal’s durability and the tension that craftsmen are able to infuse into the cymbal’s molecules through the hammers are critical and unique operations, and only high-quality metal alloys can guarantee excellent sound results. All of this happens in the 18" crash of the Byzance Foundry Reserve from Meinl."
