Review: "Less forgivable than the Z3 Chinas is the very underwhelming 12″ splash, which I do not like and would hesitate to recommend. But beware: Of the numerous splashes I’ve seen in the past decade, I’ve liked only three or four. I want a brief, whispy, clean note. Something like classic reggae, or classic Stewart Copeland. So maybe I’m just allergic to the sort of short, clunky punctuation that the Z3 12″ splash produces. It might be perfect for your musical needs. It’s not so good for mine."

Review: "The smallest Z3 cymbal is a 12" splash and that's where we began. While a foot across might seem large for a splash in many quarters, in rocky territory it's considered essential.

The splash opened quickly with a bright stab of sound. Where smaller splashes decay instantly, the Z3 cut back rapidly to a gentle ring and then faded more gradually. The note it produced was high pitched and clean, but pleasantly silvery. And yes, it was indeed loud…"

Review: "The 18" ($415) and 20" ($471) Z3 Chinas have thinner weights than the Z3 crashes. These accent cymbals displayed a tempestuous attack that was exciting, bright, lively...and loud. The 12" splash is also thin. It had sonic characteristics similar to a 14" fast crash, plus a huge sound for its size— thanks again to the oversize bell—with just a hint of trashiness."
