Review: "The Paiste Twenty line has been around for some time, and about a year ago, they introduced the Masters Series in the Twenty line. They are B20 alloy, and are some of the most musical cymbals I have ever tested.

There are several models in the Masters Series, and the one I obtained for review is the Dark Crisp Ride. I don’t know how they name cymbals, but this one implies some low tones but a bright ping, and that is exactly what it has. The serendipity is that all the peaks are about the same height, so the wash sounds like a melody.

Because of its dark background, but bright ping and musical wash, this cymbal could be used for jazz or rock. It rides beautifully, with the cymbal seeming to absorb the energy of the sticking rather than rebound it back into the player’s hand.

The ping hangs around for awhile with this cymbal, which is part of its very musical sound quality."

Review: "Rounding out the dark, lightweight group are the 20″ and 22″ Dark Crisp Rides. Slightly heavier than the Dark Rides, these middleweight beauties were really exciting on their own, and each paired beautifully with every single cymbal I had access to.

Both models had a clear, cutting stick that didn’t betray their dark roots; a strong, smoky bell; and a wash that brought my ears back to my favorite Blue Note recordings. They never got out of control, even when crashed or spanked across the bow. Musical through and through, either size would find a welcome home in any genre, with the possible exception of super high-volume settings."
