Review: I had one Z Zildjian cymbal in the 1980s - an 18" Power Crash - and at the time, I hated it. For my tastes at the time, I was way more used to the lathed Zildjian crashes I was using. That 18" is long gone, so I can't say if my opinions of that particular one has changed, but I can say that after all this time playing cymbals of varying cymbal production methods, this 20" Power Crash is a nice surprise.
It has a unique sound, definitely unlike the "usual" crashes that are lathed and hammered. This one is high-ish pitched when first crashed, fading away quickly, then a warm wash finishes off the roar with a long sustain.
And it's versatile as well - tapping it with the tip of the stick produces a medium-pitched ride sound, warm wash, and a decent bell sound. For a 20" crash, this is heavy - mine weighs in at 2906g, about the same as an A Zildjian 20" Rock Ride! Knowing this might keep some people away from trying this one, but let your ears judge it, not the weight or the design.
