Review: "The hi-hat cymbals are also made identically and have a similar sound character. In each case, a slightly lighter top cymbal was combined with a slightly heavier bottom cymbal (for the 15" pair, roughly 800 and 1030 g). Only the top cymbal is labeled as such, with the small print almost easy to overlook—but the top cymbal also lacks the ring of small hammer marks applied around the bell on the underside. Tonally, the two are noticeably different, but not too far apart in intervals. The struck sound is soft, dry, and dark, and with slight opening, a subtle range in the low end is added, of course. Foot-operated or splashed sounds are also subtle, dark, and defined. The 17" hi-hat cymbal pair delivers an exceptionally fat, rounded, but occasionally somewhat 'heavier' sound, with sustain as well—so that it is more suited as a (though very well-made) "hi-hat for special tasks". The 15" cymbal pair is more flexible and practical for everyday use.
Overall, the Xist Dry Dark Brilliant cymbals are certainly not intended primarily for the mainstream, but rather present themselves as instruments for those looking for special sounds for special occasions. In this, the cymbals perform exceptionally well both in an acoustic jazz context and in electronically experimental music genres. As solely "trashy" cymbals in a rock context, which is of course also possible, they are basically far too valuable. Finishing and workmanship are, as expected, absolutely first-class."

"Auch die Hihatbecken sind identisch gearbeitet und gehen klanglich in eine ähnliche Richtung. Hier wurden jeweils ein leichtes Top- mit einem nur gering- fügig schwereren Bottombecken kombi- niert (beim 15"-Paar sind es etwa ca. 800 und 1030 g). Lediglich das Topbecken ist als solches ausgewiesen, wobei man den kleinen Aufdruck fast übersehen mag - allerdings fehlt bei dem Topbecken auch der von der Unterseite um die Glocke gesetzte Ring von kleinen Hammerma- len. Tonal liegen die beiden merklich, aber intervalltechnisch nicht allzu weit auseinander. Der angeschlagene Sound ist weich, trocken und dunkel, und bei leichter Öffnung gesellt sich ein dezentes alles im tiefen Bereich, versteht sich. Getretene oder gesplashte Sounds sind ebenfalls dezent, dunkel und definiert. Das 17"-Hihatbeckenpaar liefert einen überaus fetten, bauchigen, allerdings auch bisweilen etwas >trägeren< Sound, sodass es sich eher als (allerdings sehr gelungene) >Hihat für spezielle Aufgaben< anbietet. Flexibler und alltagstauglicher ist das 15" große Beckenpaar.
In der Summe sind die »>Xist Dry Dark Brilliant <<-Becken sicher nicht schwer- punktmäßig für den Mainstream gedacht, sondern präsentieren sich eher Instrumen- te für diejenigen, die besondere Sounds für besondere Gelegenheiten suchen. Dabei machen die Becken sowohl in ei- nem akustisch-jazzigen Kontext als auch in elektronisch-experimentellen Musik- richtungen eine überaus gute Figur. Als allein >trashige< Becken in einem rockigen Kontext, was selbstverständlich ebenfalls möglich ist, sind sie im Grunde viel zu schade. Ver- und Bearbeitung sind, wie nicht anders zu erwarten, absolut erst- klassig." Sustain dazu
