Review: "The most intriguing items among our review group were the 13" k Custom Special Dry hi-hats. I'd play these dark and chirpy hi-hats in practically any situation.
The cymbals are hammered, lathed, and left unfinished rather than buffed. This treatment gives them a lot of personality and warmth. They have a strong presence without being obnoxious. They also perform well at various degrees of open versus closed, with traits equally applicable to rock, hip-hop, jungle, country, and jazz. And, at 13", they make outstanding auxiliary hi-hats.

Review: "Starting with the hi-hats; there is not a great deal between the 13" and 14" models except for the obvious, pitch and length. Both have a softness under stick and of course offer a dry and articulate response.
Digging right into them is satisfying and they’re not particularly loud or cutting so it feels like you can get away with it. Despite the bark of the open sound, they also possess a warmth which is reminiscent of old school big band recordings, particularly when played in a swing context. The chick of the stepped hi-hat doesn’t have lots of volume but still has sufficient impact to cut over the ride and other cymbals."

Review: "The hi-hats are beautiful. The 14”s have a wonderful, almost perfect ‘shurp’ when opened and a musical ‘chick’ with played with either foot or stick. The 15”s, as expected, have a wider sound and lower pitch with a little less definition overall, but are really nice to leave a little open for a dry slushy sound. The natural finish takes away that real cutting, bright frequency that can be so off putting – particularly in the studio. Neither size are particularly loud though, and do require a little heavy handedness if you want volume. This might be just what some players are after though, because you can be really relaxed with your velocities."

Review: "These are also an addition to a previously available model, the 14" Special Dry hats. In contrast to the Custom ride, the hats are rough looking with a dark brownish top, heavy lathing and pronounced circular crater hammerings. Also unlike the ride, the bell is lathed rather than smooth.
The top cymbal is medium-thin and is paired with a slightly heavier, medium weight bottom. This time we found the sound too dry at first. In fact, our immediate reaction was the hats were so dry they lacked flavour and warmth. But we soon realised they were sharp and crisp, suiting them to miking and recording.
Being 13" they have a slightly higher pitch than standard 14" hats, but since they're relatively light they are also fairly dark in timbre. The thin-ish top cymbal means they don't sustain as much as heavier hi-hats when opened up. The result is a clean, short-ish wash and a concise pedalled 'chick'.
The magic letter 'K' always bestows a mysterious quality and these latest cymbals are not quite what you'd expect."
