Introduction: Spring 1998

Background: Constantinople was, of course, the ancient heart of the Byzantine Empire, what is now Istanbul, Turkey. It’s also the place where the K. Zildjian was created more than a century ago. The sound was rediscovered in the 1950s and 60s by many of the legendary jazz drummers of the seminal be-bop era. Today’s Constantinople line is the latest effort by Zildjian to recreate the original recipe that became such a signature sound in jazz music. This series was Armand Zildjian's final Research and Development project before his 2002 passing. This legendary lineup would bring Zildjian cymbals back full circle to its Turkish roots, with the dark tones, rich complexity, and small-batch attention that early Zildjian cymbals are still sought for.
Alloy: B20
Quality: Professional
Production: Produced in small batches, with a complex hammering.
Company Description: The legendary "K Con" is renowned for its perfect blended sound quality. Complex hammering contributes to the cymbals' unique sonic identity and dark tones that can be at once cutting and smooth. Made in small batches using a 14-step hammering process, K Constantinople has its own signature voice.
Timeline: Started 1998, with an expansion happening the following year, doubling the series.
