Review: Back in the 1980s, when I first started playing drums, Zildjian just came out with the Z series of cymbals. At the time i was a little bewildered why they would offer the "Z" hi-hats in 13" and 14" sizes, with no 15" option. After playing this 15" pairing I think I now know why - these hi-hats are seriously heavy! Mine just happened to be among the heaviest of the weights collected here - 1627g over 1724g. (In comparison, the 14" Dyno Beat hats typically weigh 1100 to 1350 grams for a top, and 1200 to 1430 grams for a bottom)
When I put this pair on the hi-hat stand, the first thing I noticed was that I had to tighten up the part of the clutch that holds the top cymbal. (I had previously had a heavy hi-hat on the stand that this was perfect for just prior to trying these out.) It really took a lot of work on my leg's part to get the cymbals tightly together, and I never felt like I was too successful at that.
Being so large and heavy, it takes a solid whack to get these hats to open up to their full potential. They have slosh and wash for days, and a warm tone to go with a bit of metallic tones. If one were wanting something that can be heard easily, these would be a suitable suggestion.
