Three words describe the Session hats: drop dead gorgeous. And this was the consensus of fellow musicians, bandleaders, and other drummers who heard me play them. When you place a heavy cymbal on top of a lighter one, you gain articulation and clarity that punches through. These babies were light enough to produce light foot splashes in an acoustic jazz context. Yet they held their own on a particularly loud version of "I Will Survive" in the variety show. The chick sound wasn't as predominant as, say, Zildjian's Mastersound (rippled bottom) series. But it was there when I needed it. With the cymbals held barely touching, the sizzle sound was sweet and sustained. I'd recommend that if you want to get your feet wet with the Gadd Session series, go with the hats first."<br> | Three words describe the Session hats: drop dead gorgeous. Zildjian's Description: <<< - >>>
Review: "Just as the 18" ride is an odd man out, the Session hi-hats are an anomaly. A medium cymbal - which, in my estimation, leans to medium-heavy - that's extensively hammered in the Constantinople fashion sits atop a medium-thin cymbal hammered in the A Zildjian manner (though curiously silk-screened with a large "K".)
I'd recommend that if you want to get your feet wet with the Gadd Session series, go with the hats first."
